Suncoast Montessori Academy

Suncoast Montessori Academy is a Montessori Eco-school that serves children early childhood(3-6 year old students) through 5th grade. To learn more about the Montessori Curriculum                                 .   

The creator of Suncoast Montessori spent 20 years in the educational field and found that the following areas were not being fully embraced by the current educational system. She created a program centered around these areas. The following topics are essential to children reaching their full potential:

The Child’s Spirit

Most high quality early childhood programs nurture the “whole child”. The “whole child” is the social, emotional, and academic growth of a child. At Suncoast Montessori we take this a step further by nurturing the child’s spirit and nutritional needs. This approach allows the child to naturally develop socially, emotionally, and academically when they are ready. Children who are happy and healthy thrive. How do we nurture the child’s spirit?  Suncoast Montessori provides a calm, peaceful setting where children and educators have a mutual respect. At Suncoast Montessori we believe that all children should be provided with a peaceful education. In order to provide this type of environment educators utilize the Montessori Peace Curriculum providing children with character development lessons and activities. Children use the Peace Table to solve conflicts with friends and to just enjoy peaceful activities.

Nutrition and Environment

Environmental factors and food choices affect all of us, most importantly our children. Providing your children with nutritious food and a healthy, toxic-free environment is crucial to development. Children learn about growing food in our edible playground.  Children also enjoy food preparation activities and are provided healthy meals while at Suncoast Montessori. We only use non-toxic cleaners and have an organic, non- toxic garden/play area.  We recycle and compost our left over food. These activities are not just done by the staff. The children are always included in these activities, learning how to take care of themselves and to be responsible stewards of the Earth through environmentally friendly activities.

Being in Nature and Play

Children need to spend time in nature! We embrace this. Children at Suncoast Montessori spend plenty of time outside in the edible play area either gardening, working on projects, or just enjoying life with their friends. Uninterrupted free play is just as important to your child’s development as academics. In Florida, we are lucky to be able spend time outside year round! So, why wouldn’t we?

Multi-Age Grouping

Children of different ages and abilities are in the same learning environment together. Having multi-age groupings allow the children to learn from each other. Typical Montessori age groupings are in three year spans. For example,  3-6, and 6-9.  The elder students help the younger students. The younger students are driven to higher levels of achievement by observing and being mentored by the older children.  This mentorship of the younger children helps build self-esteem, leadership skills, and improves academic achievement of the older children. Suncoast Montessori’s program truly is individualized.  We believe that children should be with a group of diverse learners where every child is celebrated as a unique individual as well as a member of a community that loves them. Suncoast Montessori’s ESE (Exceptional Student Education) teacher, certified by the Florida Department of Education, is trained to personalize each child’s experience.

Suncoast Montessori’s teachers have pursued careers in education and have dedicated their lives to educating young children.
